Making Great Headway

Today was spent resolving some of the designs of yesterday, machine stitching it out and stuffing.

I've been working the past couple of days with the company of Kobna Holdbrook-Smith reading Ben Arronovitch's Peter Grant series. I'm up to Broken Homes today. A really good listen and Kobna is one of the finest orators I think I've heard.

I received this in the post.

Some time ago back in September I wrote an email into Twistedthread say that had it not been for my friend Julie taking a photo of it in situ I would never have known that Dragons Ho had won a Highly Commended. It may 'only' be an HC but I'm rather proud of the fact that it's 'only' an HC in our largest international quilt show and it was the first time I had entered something there. They're quick enough to point out the thousands of quilts they have entered into it so to win anything against such large competition is staggering. You don't even hear much of the second and third places, I'm not sure if they have certificates or not and I do hope it's more than that, let alone HC. The young lady I was emailing with said she would mention that perhaps everyone who wins should receive some acknowledgement. So hopefully next year this will happen, even for the little guys with the little prize.

This wasn't an exercise in me trying to have trumpets blown it was more trying to have pen pushers understand the passion that goes into creating these things. Perhaps others could let me know their honest thoughts on the matter.

  1. I agree. Every achievement should be properly acknowledged, after all, it might spur you on to enter again and go on to greater glory. Congratulations my friend.x

    1. Exactly. I suppose to them it's just another money spinner and then they move onto the next. And thank you.

    1. Fab comments from the judges but other than that, not a thing.

  3. This is disappointing as they used to at least include the signage when the quilts were returned, or at least they did before Upper Street Events took over. I got mine from a Judge's Choice several yeas ago but not from the one I was awarded two years ago. Doesn't take much to just take off the sign and put it in the b packaging with the quilt. I've never seen them issue certificates before. I'm with you though in that there really should be some acknowledgement of the placed quilts and those that received honourable mentions. At lest the Grosvenor shows give out rosettes, as does Uttoxeter.

    1. Not even the little blue flash that's pinned to the side of the quilt at the show and I checked the packaging just in case. Its as though only first is good enough. Oh well, let's hope someone may have listened.
